The Sandbox is a decentralized virtual world built on the Ethereum blockchain.
It has the creative building aspect of Minecraft and allows for user generated content like Roblox.
There are four major components of The Sandbox: VoxEdit, Game Maker, Marketplace and Game Client.
VoxEdit is the modeling software used by voxel artists to create voxel assets for The Sandbox.
The Game Maker is software used to create game experiences.
The Sandbox Marketplace is a place where players can buy and sell assets, land, and in the future, full experiences.
The Game Client allow players to access Alpha Season and other curated game experiences.
LAND is a limited resource in The Sandbox ecosystem that allows creators to build various experiences on it. There's a fixed amount of 166,464.
Each 1×1 parcel of LAND is 96×96 blocks. But it is also 128 blocks tall.
There are three ways to buy LAND: direct from the Sandbox team, secondary markets and through 3rd party brokers. At the moment, renting LAND is only offered by third parties.
The SAND token is used to buy LAND, stake, or buy voxel assets from the marketplace. There is a finite supply of 3B tokens.
Gems are used to create item rarity as well as to add stats to it.
Creators have made NFT galleries and various types of games. Here, The Walking Dead created a survival adventure game.
Alpha Seasons are curated showcases that last 1-2 months. Experiences have to be submitted to the publishing team to be considered.
The draft gallery is a tab inside the GameMaker software that gives creators a place to share their experiences for others to playtest.
