The game was based on the Beast Quest IP, a series of kids books. It had minimal violence and our game reflected that. The game was one of the first, if not the first in The Sandbox to have zero combat, use a top-down camera angle, or use the LAND to create individual levels.

We got players to the “ah-ha” moment quickly by delivering the fun in seconds instead of minutes. Each level can be completed in one minute, but the easier levels can be completed in 10-20 seconds.

⸺ Game Design

Each level was first designed on paper before programmed in GameMaker. The levels were arranged such that the level difficulty would scale up slowly.

⸺ Narrative Design

We created a story about how the main character obtained his sword.

⸺ Playtesting

We playtested each level to ensure they are fun puzzles to solve.
